i didn’t want to read this book. not really. i know it’s a bestseller, & usually that’s enough of a reason to hate a book. i prefer the NY Times Notables, personally. why is this book so loved? i wanted to know.

a poet speaks death: mahmoud darwish’s Memory

                                          i’ve got to write

                                          i’ve got to say one more thing
                                          before i die
it’s the distance he takes that’s jarring. that the narrator only speaks from “I” a few times in actual dialogue throughout the book.
he is speaking death. the concrete in between [...]
